TL;DR
Software Engineering Intern (Modeling & Simulation) (Aerospace) (Julia/6DOF): Developing performant software-in-the-loop simulation code and physics-informed models for aerospace systems with an accent on Monte Carlo scalability, real-time execution, and flight-data validation. Focus on modeling hardware behavior, comparing simulation outputs with real-world flight data, and integrating results with Flight Software, HMI, and Flight Sciences teams.

Location: On-site in Los Angeles, California, United States. U.S. export-control compliance is required: the hire must be a U.S. person or eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $25–$33 per hour.

Company

hirify.global is a venture-backed defense aviation company developing high-speed aircraft through rapid iterative hardware prototyping.

What you will do

  • Develop performant Julia code for 6DOF software-in-the-loop simulation systems.
  • Build user-driven features and improve the scalability of Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Design physics-informed models that represent hardware behavior and system dynamics.
  • Validate simulation outputs against real-world flight data and refine models.
  • Optimize simulations for real-time execution across test environments.
  • Collaborate with Flight Software, Human-Machine Interface, and Flight Sciences teams; participate in testing, code reviews, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in Julia or strong experience with Python, MATLAB, or C++ for scientific computing.
  • Understanding of 6DOF dynamics and simulation principles, particularly in aerospace or robotics.
  • Experience with physical-system modeling, hardware-in-the-loop, or physics-informed simulation techniques.
  • Experience validating and analyzing data by comparing simulation outputs with real-world data.
  • Strong engineering first-principles understanding, cross-functional collaboration, communication skills, enthusiasm for aviation, and a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Culture & Benefits

  • Spring internship: approximately 16 weeks from January through April.
  • Summer internship: approximately 12 weeks from May through August.
  • Interns receive 5 days of sick leave and unpaid time off.
  • Weekly paid office lunches and fully stocked breakrooms.
