Electromechanical Systems Engineer (Optical Systems)

Location: Lake Forest, CA, United States; onsite

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year; bonus: $15,000–$20,000

What you will do

• Design and develop electromechanical components, assemblies, and systems involving lenses, mirrors, sensors, and mounts.
• Perform thermal, structural, and dynamic analyses, simulations, prototyping, tolerance analysis, and optical performance characterization.
• Define and manage system-level requirements, linking requirements to design specifications and test protocols.
• Lead system verification and validation plans, including environmental testing for thermal, vibration, and shock conditions.
• Coordinate technical work across optical, mechanical, software, electrical, manufacturing, quality assurance, and program management teams.
• Drive trade studies, risk mitigation, issue resolution, technical documentation, compliance activities, audits, and regulatory submissions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in electromechanical design and systems engineering in a relevant industry.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and optical design software such as Zemax or CODE V.
• Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS and analysis tools such as ANSYS.
• Knowledge of optical metrology, requirements definition and decomposition, traceability, verification, and validation.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, presentation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace or medical devices.
