Location: Based on-site at Merlin HQ in Boston, Massachusetts, with a hybrid workplace designation. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship or visa transfer.

Salary: $220,000–$290,000 per year in base compensation, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Manage the legal lifecycle of government contracts, including proposal review, procurement strategy, negotiations, contract structuring, and FAR/DFARS compliance.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including teaming agreements, technology licenses, NDAs, vendor contracts, supply-chain agreements, and other business contracts.
  • Serve as the primary legal contact for inbound contract requests from the business.
  • Build contracting templates, playbooks, intake processes, and other infrastructure for a growing legal team.
  • Support additional matters as needed, including foreign and allied government contracting, strategic partnerships, joint development, aviation regulation, government ethics, employment matters, and litigation.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
  • At least 8 years of substantive legal experience, preferably including in-house corporate legal work.
  • Deep experience with U.S. government contracts law, including FAR and DFARS.
  • Deep commercial contracting experience, particularly with supply-chain, procurement, or vendor agreements.
  • Resourceful, independent, and comfortable working with ambiguity in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance and authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Foreign Military Sales, Direct Commercial Sales, or other international government contracting frameworks.
  • Experience negotiating strategic partnerships, joint ventures, or joint development agreements, including intellectual property allocation.
  • Experience with lobbying disclosure, PAC administration, or political law compliance.
  • Familiarity with ITAR/EAR export controls and IP licensing.
