Senior HPC Platform Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Hybrid work based out of offices in College Park, Maryland; Boulder, Colorado; or Bothell, Washington, with remote work a few days per week. Travel up to 15%, domestic or international.

Base salary: $124,000–$186,000 USD per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support an HPC software platform for quantum computing research, engineering, control, and application development.
• Build web applications and self-service tooling for interactive development, batch jobs, and CI/CD workflows across on-premises and cloud systems.
• Develop telemetry, observability, SLO reporting, and automation for provisioning and managing infrastructure.
• Write tested, maintainable code and contribute to architecture, design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and user guides.
• Support internal researchers and software developers running simulations and other workloads.
• Manage projects, priorities, deadlines, technical risks, and relationships with stakeholders across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience, particularly in systems automation, backend services, or platform tooling.
• Proficiency with Python, Go, and Bash.
• Experience building backend services, APIs, or web applications.
• Experience with Linux container tools such as Docker, Podman, Singularity, or Enroot.
• Ability to meet U.S. export-control and government-contract requirements, including U.S. Person status or applicable authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience with Linux infrastructure software, deployment platforms, Ansible, or Terraform.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, SLIs/SLOs, and observability systems.
• Frontend or full-stack development, Open OnDemand, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Slurm, PBS, Grid Engine, Kubernetes, NVIDIA GPUs, or other accelerators.
• Research-computing experience or exposure to quantum physics, quantum computing, or quantum information science.
