Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, working out of the Vancouver, BC office. Infrequent travel to Tokyo, Japan or Mountain View, California may be required, usually for one week or less per year.

What you will do

• Lead a 3–4 person delivery pod while remaining hands-on with production code.
• Build and ship customer-facing AI product surfaces and internal developer tooling using Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React.
• Experiment with AI coding tools, develop custom AI-assisted tooling, and establish team-wide agentic coding standards.
• Set architectural standards, identify systemic risks, and drive end-to-end ownership across frontend, backend, QA, and production delivery.
• Coordinate Kanban planning, backlog decomposition, blocker removal, cross-pod dependencies, and capacity management.
• Lead on-call practices and develop pod members through code reviews, pairing, mentorship, and direct feedback.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong full-stack track record.
• Deep proficiency in Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React.
• Experience leading a small engineering team or serving as a technical lead.
• Advanced fluency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, including establishing team-wide usage patterns.
• Strong architectural judgment and the ability to make and defend system-level design decisions.
• Experience balancing hands-on coding with coordination, mentorship, cross-team alignment, and Agile/Kanban practices.
