TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Gas Engines): Maintaining and troubleshooting gas engines and associated plant equipment across Anglia with an accent on equipment reliability, fault resolution, and customer support. Focus on restoring equipment operation during callouts, minimizing downtime, supervising apprentices, and maintaining high health, safety, and service-reporting standards.

Location: Kings Lynn, Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds, Norwich, with possible UK travel as required. The role involves extensive travel, out-of-hours callouts, and staying away from home when required.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate; overtime is paid at 1.5x the basic rate. Travel of up to 30 minutes each way per day is paid at single time, with an on-call call-out fee.

What you will do

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on gas engines and associated plant equipment to maximize reliability and availability.
  • Respond to out-of-hours callouts, troubleshoot faults, and restore equipment operation while minimizing customer downtime.
  • Collect and dispatch oil samples, select and order parts, and maintain accurate van stock records.
  • Build positive customer relationships and coordinate site activities with the Area Manager and subcontractors.
  • Complete detailed service reports and maintain company tools, equipment, calibration, and site presentation standards.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor apprentices and new team members while following health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of service engineering experience.
  • NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Apprentice-trained engineer with strong electrical and mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Gas Safe registration and a full driving licence are required.
  • Proficient IT skills for documenting work and completing service reports.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, work unsociable hours, participate in an on-call rota, and stay away from home when required.
