Principal AI Security Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Fully onsite in Sunnyvale, California, United States; regular attendance is required. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.

Salary: $170,000–$225,000 USD base salary per year, plus equity eligibility, bonus eligibility, and benefits.

What you will do

• Provide technical guidance as an AI security subject matter expert to internal teams.
• Collaborate with development teams on security code reviews, architectural reviews, and AI red teaming assessments.
• Perform threat modeling for chatbots, MCP implementations, autonomous agents, and other AI-related products.
• Integrate security and AI-specific checks into CI/CD workflows and automate security testing.
• Design vulnerability mitigation strategies, security controls, guardrails, input/output filters, and policy enforcement layers for LLM interactions.
• Research emerging AI application attack vectors and coach peers on AI/ML security practices.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in information security, product security, application security, AI/ML, data science, or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of LLM application architectures, vector databases, memory, tool usage, MCP, agentic AI, and guardrails.
• Experience with adversarial examples, prompt injection, training data extraction, model extraction, data poisoning, LLM moderation, and prompt engineering.
• Strong understanding of OWASP Top 10, OWASP LLM Top 10, API security, cloud-native architectures, microservices, containers, OAuth, JWT, and applied cryptography.
• Proven experience in manual application penetration testing, security code review, threat modeling, and DevSecOps.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; this position requires onsite work in Sunnyvale. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or a related technical field is required, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in artificial intelligence or a related field.
• Experience with AI red teaming, adversarial testing, AI-generated code analysis, MLOps, or deep learning infrastructure.
• Knowledge of data science, statistical analysis, visualization, AI trust principles, and ethical or safety considerations.
• Familiarity with the EU AI Act, GDPR, ISO 42001, or NIST AI RMF.
