TL;DR
Summer 2027 AI/ML Engineering Intern (AI/ML) (LLM/Agents): Building production AI and machine learning features for the Nuclear Operating System, including LLM-driven workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, agents, predictive models, and anomaly detection with an accent on reliable data and regulated industrial applications. Focus on developing tool-using agents, integrating Palantir Foundry and AWS GovCloud data, and creating evaluation, monitoring, and regression systems that keep AI features safe, reproducible, and audit-ready.

Location: Washington, DC; on-site five days a week for the full term. Full housing and relocation are provided for co-ops outside the DC metro area. U.S. Person status is required, and visa sponsorship is not provided.

Salary: $25.00 per hour, plus a $2,000 monthly housing stipend, less applicable withholdings and deductions.

Company

hirify.global is an AI-focused nuclear and energy startup building software for fleet-scale deployment of safe, reliable, and affordable nuclear reactors.

What you will do

  • Ship machine learning and AI features for site evaluation, red flag analysis, scheduling, lessons learned, and project stakeholder tools.
  • Build AI agents and agent workflows that operate against Nuclear Operating System data and tools, including MCP interfaces and tool-use frameworks.
  • Develop data pipelines and integrations across Palantir Foundry, AWS GovCloud, and other systems, while contributing to the data ontology.
  • Build predictive and anomaly-detection models using operational and sensor time-series data from active projects.
  • Define evaluation criteria, acceptance thresholds, and regression suites; monitor model quality, triage issues, and investigate root causes.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a BS program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related technical field, and returning to school afterward.
  • Strong Python fundamentals and hands-on exposure to modern ML and LLM tools such as PyTorch or Hugging Face.
  • Evidence of shipping working software or machine learning projects through coursework, personal projects, internships, or co-ops.
  • U.S. Person status, defined as U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence, is required because of U.S. export controls.
  • Ability to work on-site in Washington, DC, five days a week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with LLMs, agents, prompting, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, or MCP-style tool use.
  • Experience with Palantir Foundry and AIP, AWS, or another major cloud platform.
  • Experience with exploratory data analysis, large messy datasets, time-series or sensor data, MLOps, MLflow, SageMaker, Vertex AI, or model CI/CD.
  • Interest in energy, national security, industrial software, or regulated industries; nuclear engineering familiarity is helpful but not required.

Culture & Benefits

  • AI-first work environment using AI, technology, and the Nuclear Operating System to improve workflows and decision-making.
  • Purpose-driven work connected to national security, energy independence, and climate goals.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Generous vacation policy and holidays.
  • Full housing and relocation support for co-ops outside the DC metro area.
