Fall 2026 AI/ML Engineering Intern

Location: Washington, DC; on-site five days a week for six months. Full housing and relocation are provided for co-ops outside the DC metro area. U.S. Person status is required, and visa sponsorship is not provided.

Starting rate: $25.00 per hour, plus a $2,000 monthly housing stipend.

What you will do

• Build and ship ML and AI features in the Nuclear Operating System for site evaluation, red-flag analysis, scheduling, lessons learned, and project tools.
• Develop AI agents and workflows that operate against NOS data and tools, including MCP interfaces and tool-use frameworks.
• Build data pipelines and integrations across Palantir Foundry, AWS GovCloud, and other systems while contributing to the data ontology.
• Develop predictive and anomaly-detection models using operational and sensor time-series data.
• Define evaluation criteria, acceptance thresholds, and regression suites; investigate failures and maintain audit-ready, reproducible model quality.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a BS program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Available for the full six-month Fall 2026 term from August through December and returning to school afterward.
• Strong Python fundamentals and hands-on exposure to modern ML or LLM tooling such as PyTorch or Hugging Face.
• Experience shipping working software or ML projects through coursework, personal projects, internships, or co-ops.
• U.S. Person status is required due to U.S. export-control requirements; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Willing and able to work on-site in Washington, DC five days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLMs, agents, prompting, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, or MCP.
• Experience with Palantir Foundry and AIP, AWS, or another major cloud platform.
• Experience with exploratory data analysis, large messy datasets, time-series or sensor data, MLOps, MLflow, SageMaker, Vertex AI, or model CI/CD.
• Interest in energy, national security, industrial software, regulated industries, or nuclear engineering.
