Senior Geometric Calibration Engineer (Landsat)

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with a hybrid remote/onsite arrangement; fully remote work may be considered for the right candidate. Three years of continuous residency in the United States is required to obtain a government security credential and access to the government facility and user account.

What you will do

• Monitor, measure, and calibrate the geometry of Landsat data from Landsat 1–9 satellites.
• Develop and verify tools and algorithms for instrument calibration, image processing, and improved Landsat data products.
• Characterize instrument geometric performance and report on Landsat data quality.
• Present geometry status and analysis results to program management, conferences, and workshops.
• Provide geometric data quality expertise to anomaly resolution teams and answer user service questions.
• Write white papers and journal articles, participate in peer reviews, and support public relations data requests.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in engineering, system characterization, signal processing, system calibration, photogrammetry, geodesy, mathematics, or satellite systems.
• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• Experience writing SQL queries and programming in Python, IDL, Matlab, and C or C++.
• Knowledge of spacecraft and instrument dynamics, characteristics, and requirements.
• Knowledge of image and signal processing, statistical analysis fundamentals, and map projections.
• Ability to develop processing techniques and tools, communicate effectively, work independently, and manage complex multitask environments.

Nice to have

• Configuration management experience.
• Knowledge of geodesy, system calibration and characterization, satellite systems, and remote sensing.
• Understanding of view-angle and orbital geometries.
• Knowledge of cloud data processing and satellite ground systems.
• Experience with remote sensing data capture, processing, archiving, distribution, and scientific applications.
