TL;DR
Senior Space Based Sensing Engineer – AMTI Program (Space-Based Radar and Systems Engineering): Providing independent technical assessment and SETA support for the development and deployment of a space-based Air Moving Target Indicator system with an accent on radar payloads, RF systems, lifecycle engineering, and mission performance. Focus on evaluating contractor designs, modeling sensor performance, supporting integration and test, and delivering technical recommendations to government leadership.
Location: Chantilly, Virginia, United States. Travel as needed.
Salary: $190,000+ USD annually, depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications.

What you will do
- Provide independent technical assessments of contractor designs, architectures, and performance.
- Support requirements development, design reviews, integration, testing, verification, and operations across the system lifecycle.
- Evaluate radar payload performance, RF hardware development, production testing, and system-level trade studies.
- Support MBSE, digital engineering, system performance modeling, multi-sensor integration, and data fusion.
- Analyze end-to-end mission performance across sensors, ground systems, processing, and dissemination.
- Identify technical risks, recommend mitigations, and deliver briefings and decision-support materials to senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related technical field; a master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in aerospace, space systems, or defense programs.
- Experience across the full systems lifecycle, including requirements, design, integration, test, and operations.
- Strong background in space-based ISR systems, radar systems, or RF payloads.
- Experience with radar design or signal processing, RF payload development, performance modeling, mission data processing, or ground system architectures.
- Experience with MBSE and SysML tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw, plus the ability to assess contractor performance and brief senior leadership.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting government program offices in a SETA or similar role.
- Familiarity with DoD and IC acquisition processes, including JCIDS and DoD 5000 series.
- Experience with satellite and payload engineering, communications architectures, crypto integration, or multi-sensor integration.
- Experience supporting integration and test campaigns, launch-site operations, readiness reviews, or early-orbit commissioning.
- Proficiency with Tableau, Confluence, Jira, DOORS, Python, MATLAB, or similar analytical tools.
