Staff /Principal Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Own complex product domains from architecture through production.
• Lead end-to-end feature development across frontend, backend, and cloud systems.
• Drive architectural decisions and technical direction across the platform.
• Design and build scalable distributed systems and AI-powered product capabilities.
• Collaborate with the VP R&D on technical strategy and architecture.
• Mentor engineers through technical leadership and influence engineering standards without people management.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including architecture leadership and complex technical initiatives.
• Background as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Software Architect, or highly experienced Technical Lead.
• Strong system design, software architecture, and end-to-end technical ownership experience.
• Proven experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Deep expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and React, plus cloud experience, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, delivery-driven environment.

Nice to have

• Experience building a proof of concept, product, or service from the ground up.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience working with local government.
