Associate Director, Actuarial (Health Insurance)

Location: Boston, United States; hybrid work arrangement

Salary: $185,850–$227,150 annually, plus variable pay eligibility

What you will do

• Lead quarterly and annual actuarial reserving, including IBNR and other statutory reserve calculations.
• Develop and maintain actuarial models for forecasting, reserving, risk adjustment, and claim liability estimation across product lines.
• Serve as Appointed Actuary, prepare the annual Statement of Actuarial Opinion, and submit the Financial Condition Report.
• Analyze trends and premiums for pricing, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting across insured commercial lines.
• Present actuarial findings and recommendations to executive leadership, the Board, and non-actuarial stakeholders.
• Advise on strategy, partnerships, product design, and pricing while managing and mentoring actuaries.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) required.
• Eligibility to serve as an Appointed Actuary under applicable state and federal requirements.
• At least 8 years of progressive health insurance actuarial experience, including 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Expertise in Individual/ACA, Group Commercial, and Medicare lines, including pricing, reserving, risk adjustment, and regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of health insurance regulations, the Affordable Care Act, and statutory accounting principles; proficiency with actuarial modeling and data analysis tools such as SQL, SAS, and Python.
