TL;DR
Data Engineer (DEA) (ETL/Data Migration): Designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines for the DEA investigative case and data ecosystem, with an accent on legacy-data migration, validation, interoperability, and secure data quality. Focus on building ETL workflows, profiling and transforming structured and unstructured data, troubleshooting pipeline performance, and preparing datasets for analytics and AI/ML use cases.
Location: Arlington, VA; primarily onsite at DEA Headquarters. A Top Secret (SCI) clearance is required.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
- Support large-scale migration of legacy data into the modernized DEA investigative and case management ecosystem.
- Implement data cleaning, standardization, classification, transformation, and validation processes.
- Monitor data accuracy, completeness, consistency, integrity, and pipeline performance.
- Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, developers, and business stakeholders on data engineering solutions and interoperability.
- Document data flows, mappings, transformation logic, validation procedures, and operational processes while participating in Agile development activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and at least 2 years of professional experience.
- Top Secret (SCI) clearance required.
- Hands-on experience with data analysis, ETL development, and data migration.
- Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with Python for data manipulation, scripting, and workflow automation.
- Experience with ETL frameworks or orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Talend, dbt, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of data warehousing, cloud-based data platforms, data profiling, validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Nice to have
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, or other distributed-processing frameworks.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Familiarity with Git and automated data workflows.
- Experience with federal government programs, large-scale migration, application modernization, or Agile development.
