Public Safety Officer I

Location: Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, Massachusetts, United States. On-site position with Saturday and Sunday hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; occasional overtime and holdovers may be required.

Pay range: $21.53–$26.91 per hour.

What you will do

• Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to protect patients, visitors, staff, assets, and information.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls, alarms, crises, disasters, evacuations, and incidents involving violent patients or visitors.
• Control access to secured areas, screen visitors and vendors, verify identification badges, and provide escorts.
• Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities, safety hazards, policy violations, and unauthorized access.
• Document incidents and deficiencies through comprehensive reports, work orders, and follow-up records.
• Support investigations by conducting interviews, reviewing video, preparing case files, and securing evidence.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state-issued driver's license.
• Proficient English communication, reading, and writing skills required.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to assess dangerous situations, make sound decisions, and respond appropriately.
• IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
• Ability to stand or walk for up to eight hours, climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, wear personal protective equipment, and work in potentially hazardous environments.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
• Military, security, police, or first-responder experience.
• Certifications in de-escalation, crisis response, CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, or nasal naloxone.
• Law enforcement training or Police Academy graduation, with or the ability to obtain Massachusetts POST certification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.
