Salary: $85,000–$100,000 annually, approximately $7,083.34–$8,333.34 monthly

What you will do

• Develop and execute strategic communications plans supporting enrollment, student success, research, advancement, community engagement, and institutional reputation.
• Advise university leadership and prepare speeches, talking points, presentations, statements, correspondence, and other executive communications.
• Lead media relations, serve as a primary media contact and spokesperson, and build relationships with local, regional, national, and industry media.
• Direct crisis and issues communications, including emergency messaging, incident command communications, response procedures, and post-incident reviews.
• Oversee institutional content across digital, social, video, audio, print, and other channels, including editorial standards and AP style compliance.
• Lead, mentor, and develop communications staff while managing priorities, workflows, budgets, policies, and performance expectations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible communications, public relations, media relations, journalism, or related experience, including at least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Exceptional written, verbal, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience developing strategic communications plans, managing media relations, and handling sensitive, high-profile, or crisis communications.
• Strong judgment, leadership-advisory skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and experience using communications data and analytics.
• Employment is contingent on a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials and other required information.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, higher education administration, or a related field.
• Communications or public relations experience in higher education or another large, complex organization.
• Experience advising executive leadership, leading crisis communications, and developing regional or national media relationships.
• Knowledge of emerging communications trends, media monitoring, digital communications, and reputation management.
