Director of Communications

Location: Washington, DC, USA. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $120,000–$137,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and manage communications plans and systems promoting the organization’s brand, mission, and research to government, media, industry, policy, and academic audiences.
• Lead multi-channel content production and distribution across websites, social media, mass email, video, events, print, and press.
• Manage the Communications Department, staff, external vendors, publishing processes, and communications infrastructure.
• Develop media engagement strategies, press releases, briefings, media opportunities, and placed content.
• Advise research programs on audience engagement, stakeholder communications, narrative development, and accessible presentation of complex policy analysis.
• Use data and analytics to measure communications impact and support evidence-based decisions.

Requirements

• Progressively responsible communications leadership and management experience in a nonprofit or policy organization.
• Demonstrated ability to translate nuanced policy issues into clear, accessible, and persuasive content.
• Strong writing, editing, verbal communication, presentation, collaboration, and training skills.
• Proficiency with communications technologies including content management systems, web design tools, video production, social media, CRM and mass email platforms, databases, and project management tools.
• Experience with websites, custom webpage builds, vendors, events, publishing, graphic design, and digital analytics.
• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of communications, public relations, or related experience.
