Salary: $113,050–$163,617 per year, commensurate with experience, education, qualifications, and internal peer group.

What you will do

  • Provide engineering support for NSLS-II mechanical utility systems, including deionized water, chilled water, hot water, compressed air, and HVAC.
  • Develop start-up, testing, and verification plans to confirm that system performance meets facility requirements.
  • Oversee utility distribution systems and maintain designed performance criteria, including stringent temperature accuracy for magnet systems.
  • Design, manage, and oversee mechanical utility installations from planning and procurement through fabrication and commissioning.
  • Prepare labor, material, schedule, statements of work, and technical specifications for mechanical development projects.
  • Maintain spare-part inventories, maintenance programs, safety procedures, and P&ID drawings for new and existing installations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field and at least seven years of progressively responsible related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of hot-water and chilled-water hydronic systems, HVAC, and compressed-air distribution systems.
  • Ability to manage engineering design responsibilities from project conception through completion.
  • Experience with energy-load calculations, AutoCAD 2D/3D or similar design tools, technical writing, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience developing comprehensive maintenance programs for mechanical utility systems and collaborating with scientists and technical staff.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification credential and meet Brookhaven site-access identification requirements.

Nice to have

  • Ten years of progressively responsible related experience with advanced engineering approaches.
  • Experience with Revit 3D, Allen-Bradley or Automated Logic control systems, and large facilities.
  • Master’s degree or Professional Engineer license.
