Lead Data Architect (Databricks)

Location: Remote applicants must reside in Virginia, North Carolina, Washington DC, or Maryland. Applicants within 50 miles of the Richmond or Lynchburg offices must work hybrid in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Salary: $120,900–$187,000 national range, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Translate business requirements into solution architectures covering infrastructure, data modeling, integration, and coding design.
• Evaluate project and data product scope, timelines, trade-offs, costs, and expected business value.
• Create solution architecture, data model, and data pipeline diagrams, along with technology decision trees.
• Lead proofs of concept and establish reusable design patterns, frameworks, coding standards, and shared functions.
• Guide data engineering, modeling, infrastructure, cloud, and delivery teams throughout the SDLC.
• Build stakeholder alignment, improve architecture adoption, and mentor teams on effective implementation.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience as a data architect, data engineer, data modeler, or in related hands-on roles supporting analytical and operational systems.
• Experience combining strategic architecture leadership with practical data solution implementation and proofs of concept.
• Strong knowledge of analytical and operational databases, data modeling, data pipeline design, coding frameworks, and modern data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Spark, Kafka, ingestion tools, Lakehouse architectures, and related technologies.
• Experience designing ingestion using change data capture, event streaming, and batch processing for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
• Four-year college degree or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.

Nice to have

• Certifications relevant to data architecture and solution design.
• Knowledge of cloud services, networking, security practices, and hardware configurations.
• Experience applying AI in data solutions.
