Senior Laboratory Director, Oncology

Location: Menlo Park, California, United States; hybrid onsite attendance required 2–3 days per week

Salary: $246,525–$267,962 base pay per year; total compensation package of $471,554 per year

What you will do

• Lead and scale the oncology clinical laboratory organization, including headcount planning, hiring, and competency management.
• Own the laboratory operating budget, P&L, COGS, operating expenses, and capital equipment planning.
• Drive turnaround time, throughput, capacity, quality, process improvement, and automation initiatives.
• Lead laboratory scale-up, assay and instrument onboarding, inspection readiness, vendor management, and capital procurement.
• Provide technical oversight of somatic variant interpretation and oncology report sign-out for Northstar liquid biopsy assays.
• Collaborate with bioinformatics, R&D, and medical affairs on assay development, interpretation guidelines, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in genetics, molecular biology, or a related field, with board certification such as ABMGG or Molecular Genetic Pathology certification.
• Valid or eligible California Clinical Laboratory Director licensure and New York State CoQ in oncology testing.
• At least 7 years of experience in a regulated clinical laboratory environment, including 4 or more years in molecular oncology testing with NGS.
• Experience developing, validating, and implementing oncology assays, including somatic mutation panels or methylation assays.
• Deep knowledge of cancer genomics, variant interpretation databases such as COSMIC, OncoKB, and ClinVar, IGV and BAM file review, molecular tumor boards, LIMS, and oncology bioinformatics tools.
• Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and people-leadership skills in high-growth environments.
