Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base pay: $176,400–$264,000 per year, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and test embedded C software for safety-critical multicore automotive microcontrollers.
• Develop RTOS, device drivers, schedulers, bootloaders, middleware, actuator interfaces, body controls, power management, and fault-management components.
• Integrate the hirify.global Driver with new vehicle platforms using CAN and automotive Ethernet interfaces with OEM electronic control units.
• Perform hands-on device and vehicle bring-up, prototyping, debugging, and validation from first power-on through autonomous driving.
• Build verification infrastructure, including unit tests, hardware-in-the-loop benches, and vehicle test procedures.
• Collaborate with systems, safety, hardware, controls, autonomy, OEM, and supplier engineers throughout development and verification.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of industry experience developing embedded software in C with a real-time operating system.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, concurrency, and algorithm design.
• Working knowledge of microcontroller internals and peripherals, with depth in device drivers, CAN or automotive Ethernet, bootloaders, embedded security, or vehicle integration and testing.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, written communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Comfort using debug probes, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN tools at the bench.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of embedded development in the automotive or autonomous vehicle industry, including a production launch.
• Functional safety experience with ISO 26262 or safety-critical development under DO-178C or IEC 62304.
• Experience with Infineon AURIX TC3xx, SafeRTOS, FreeRTOS, or AUTOSAR Classic base software.
• Vehicle network integration experience with DBC, ARXML, UDS diagnostics, E2E protection, or time synchronization.
• Knowledge of vehicle functions, vehicle dynamics, or control theory.
