What you will do

• Plan, build, and operate a new fabrication and instrumentation core for the Department of Imaging Sciences.
• Develop the core’s financial plan, operational structure, services, and staffing model; recruit, train, and manage 2–4 direct reports.
• Oversee space renovations, including project consultation areas and clean-room, aseptic, or non-magnetic manufacturing environments.
• Scope equipment purchases and coordinate vendor ordering, installation, servicing, warranties, and training.
• Provide day-to-day operational oversight, budget planning, stakeholder communication, and technical contribution to projects.
• Collaborate with institutional leaders, shared resources, laboratories, vendors, and cross-functional teams to foster innovation and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in a relevant technical field; 8+ years with a master’s degree or 5+ years with a PhD.
• Leadership experience managing mid-to-large teams and developing staff capabilities.
• Strong project management, operational management, budget planning, stakeholder management, and resource management experience.
• Ability to lead large-scale projects through implementation and maintain expertise in advanced fabrication and instrumentation techniques.

Nice to have

• Experience with machining and 3D printing.
• Experience with imaging or microscopy technologies, biomedical analytical methods, microfluidics, or related technologies.
• Experience with commercial strategy, productization, design documentation, manufacturing, or regulatory considerations.
• Established connections with peers, emerging technology communities, and expert networks.
