Machine Learning Engineer Graduate (Tech and Product, USDS) - 2027 Start (PhD) (AI)

Location: Seattle, United States; fully in-person, up to 5 days per week

Salary: $129,960–$246,240 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Design, build, train, and evaluate machine learning models for recommendations, search ranking, query understanding, and conversion prediction.
• Develop pipelines for feature extraction, model training, evaluation, deployment, and A/B testing.
• Process large-scale user behavior data and catalog logs with distributed systems to create real-time and offline features.
• Optimize online inference latency and throughput for high-QPS production microservices.
• Run continuous A/B tests, analyze online metrics, identify bottlenecks, and iterate on models to support business goals.

Requirements

• Completing or recently completed a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, computer systems, and software design.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of machine learning.
• Availability to commit to an onboarding date by the end of 2027; graduation date and availability must be stated clearly on the resume.

Nice to have

• Internship or project experience in recommendation systems, search engines, computational advertising, or e-commerce AI.
• Experience with distributed computing frameworks.
