TL;DR
Staff Electrical Engineer I - CDH (Spacecraft Avionics): Designing, manufacturing, testing, and supporting electrical systems for high-reliability satellite missions with an accent on avionics architecture, subsystem interfaces, communications, and EMI mitigation. Focus on defining and verifying spacecraft electronics, conducting architecture and make/buy trade studies, and delivering flight hardware through qualification and in-orbit operations.

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States; on-site

Salary: $158,000–$189,000 per year

What you will do

  • Define, implement, and verify satellite avionics systems.
  • Maintain spacecraft subsystem architecture, electrical interfaces, block diagrams, and requirements.
  • Design in-house electrical solutions and conduct make-or-buy trade studies.
  • Develop and validate serial communications, Ethernet networking, EMI mitigation, wiring, connectors, and data interfaces.
  • Lead hardware manufacturing, testing, qualification, troubleshooting, and flight delivery.
  • Communicate technical decisions to engineering teams, program management, company leadership, and executives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering; a Master’s degree may count as two years of experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience designing, analyzing, manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting spacecraft electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electronics fundamentals, processors, digital I/O, timing signals, power rails, grounding, telemetry, flight software controls, and thermal management.
  • Experience defining electrical interface control documents, requirements, digital I/O standards, power interfaces, connectors, and cabling.
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators to debug and validate high-reliability electronics.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Python, C++, MATLAB, or other programming experience.
  • Experience evaluating hardware for TID, SEE, EMI, and related effects.
  • Familiarity with thermal, shock, vibration, and TVAC environmental testing.
  • Experience with ADS SI/PI or similar signal integrity and power integrity tools.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, bare-metal microprocessor programming, control systems, and PMSM/BLDC motor control algorithms.
