What you will do

  • Lead the Hartwell Center for Biotechnology Shared Resource and its 20 multidisciplinary staff members across Illumina, PacBio, genotyping, functional genomics and arrays, RNA, and peptide synthesis.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, laboratory services, workflow efficiency, equipment testing, demonstrations, acquisitions, and long-term technology adoption.
  • Advise faculty, investigators, research staff, and trainees on project design, technical requirements, sequencing workflows, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accuracy, reproducibility, timeliness, quality control, quality assurance, and quality management across laboratory activities.
  • Manage staff performance, hiring, mentoring, continuing education, career development, and team engagement.
  • Prepare budgets, manage capital resources, oversee chargebacks, and recommend future acquisitions and center growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required.
  • At least 10 years of relevant technical experience with a bachelor’s degree, 8 years with a master’s degree, or 5 years with a PhD.
  • Deep expertise in standard and emerging NGS platforms, data-processing pipelines, and genomic library preparation methods.
  • Experience with RNA-seq, WGS, WES, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, scRNA-seq, multiomic workflows, alignments, and IGV.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary or mid-to-large teams, managing operations and budgets, and implementing large-scale projects.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, ethical leadership, quality management, organization, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing or integrating new sequencing techniques and building new services or leading major upgrades.
  • Participation in the nationwide genomics community and connections with emerging technology communities and expert networks.
  • Experience providing technical instruction to students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers.
