TL;DR
Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace): Developing, analyzing, testing, and building mechanical systems and structures for high-power satellites with an accent on spacecraft hardware, computational methods, and hardware trades. Focus on solving aerospace engineering challenges, understanding system physics, and executing an impactful project with cross-functional engineering support.

Location: In person at the HQ in Torrance, California, United States; minimum 12-week internship.

Salary: $30–$40 per hour; housing and travel stipend may also be available.

Builds high-power satellite platforms and spacecraft for missions ranging from low Earth orbit to deep space.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, test, and build mechanical systems and structures for large satellite platforms.
  • Own and execute a project with significant mission impact under the guidance of a mentor.
  • Apply hand calculations, computational methods, and development testing to understand the physics behind the work.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on hardware trades and project decisions.
  • Work with technicians, engineers, and managers to solve practical aerospace challenges.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 6 months of technical engineering experience outside the university classroom, such as laboratory work, research, project teams, volunteering, personal projects, or prior work experience.
  • Available for a minimum 12-week, in-person internship at the Torrance headquarters.
  • Must be a U.S. Person under ITAR regulations or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CAD software.
  • Understanding of free-body diagrams, statics, or basic mechanics of materials.
  • Experience working with mechanical hardware or integrated engineering teams through projects such as rocketry, CubeSats, robotics, Formula SAE, or similar activities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in an integrated engineering environment.
