Process Technician, Mechanical (mRNA Manufacturing)

Location: Full-time onsite at the GMP manufacturing facility in Clayton, Melbourne, Australia; not eligible for remote work.

Biotechnology company developing mRNA medicines and operating a large-scale mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility in Melbourne.

What you will do

• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on GMP and non-GMP process and support equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment and system malfunctions, identify root causes, and develop remediation strategies with equipment owners and vendors.
• Respond as the first-line technician to equipment issues and coordinate service providers when required.
• Maintain cGMP-compliant paper and electronic documentation for maintenance activities.
• Provide technical expertise for autoclaves, washers, isolators, TFF systems, chromatography skids, filling lines, mixers, and stainless-steel tanks.
• Supervise contractors, deliver maintenance-related on-the-job training, support investigations, and contribute to reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Certificate III trade qualification; a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical or Mechatronics may be considered with relevant hands-on experience.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in a regulated environment, preferably cGMP; sterile manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
• Hands-on mechanical experience with mechanical drive and process systems, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and mixing vessels.
• Understanding of automated process equipment and PLC controls for basic troubleshooting, as well as pneumatic and vacuum systems.
• Structured problem-solving, root-cause investigation, technical writing, communication, prioritization, and ownership skills.
• Ability to work safely with LOTO, hot work permits, working-at-heights requirements, and rotating on-call coverage.
