TL;DR
HR Leave Specialist (FMLA/Workday): Administering employee leave programs, workers’ compensation claims, separations, and prior state service verification for a university with an accent on regulatory compliance, confidential records, and employee support. Location: Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. The position may be considered for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of the initial training and onboarding phase, approximately six months.
Salary: up to $44,000 annually, approximately $3,666.67 monthly.

What you will do
- Administer and coordinate FMLA, parental, PTO, disability, military, state-mandated, and other university leave programs.
- Review eligibility and documentation, communicate leave rights and timelines, and support employees and administrators throughout leave cases.
- Maintain and audit confidential leave records in Workday and other tracking systems, including reports and compliance documentation.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims from injury reporting through resolution and coordinate with employees, supervisors, medical providers, and risk management.
- Support return-to-work processes, employee separations, final pay and leave accrual actions, and benefits-related offboarding.
- Verify prior state service with public institutions and agencies and determine its effect on leave accruals and service-based benefits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least one year of experience in human resources, benefits administration, leave administration, customer service, administrative support, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of federal and state leave laws and programs, including FMLA, ADA, disability leave, and workers’ compensation.
- Strong communication, customer service, organization, confidentiality, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, sensitive documentation, and relationships across the organization.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and business systems.
Nice to have
- Experience administering leave, benefits, disability-related leave, workers’ compensation claims, or return-to-work programs.
- Experience with Workday or another HCM system.
- Experience in higher education, the public sector, or customer-focused environments.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or progress toward a relevant certification.
- Knowledge of Texas workers’ compensation processes and leave coordination practices.
