Principal Designer, Apparel - HOKA Innovation (AI)

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States; hybrid with office attendance typically required three times per week, Tuesday–Thursday

Salary: $137,500–$185,600 per year

What you will do

• Design and engineer future performance apparel aligned with athlete needs, innovation goals, and HOKA’s design DNA.
• Lead innovation projects across strategy, roadmaps, calendars, design direction, and seasonal narratives.
• Create and refine 2D and 3D tech packs, renderings, prototypes, product stories, and presentations.
• Collaborate with elite athletes, sports science, testing, engineering, development, consumer insights, and agency partners.
• Explore new materials, constructions, aesthetics, sustainable practices, and advanced manufacturing approaches.
• Travel to factories, trade shows, and athlete events for design, development, and inspiration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in apparel, footwear, industrial, transportation design, or equivalent education and experience.
• 8–10+ years of related performance apparel design experience.
• Expertise in technical performance apparel, including materials, construction, fit, sustainability, circularity, and advanced manufacturing.
• Mastery of digital design and AI co-creation tools, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, Rhino, Grasshopper, Blender, Clo, KeyShot, Gravity Sketch, Vizcom, Midjourney, and Claude.
• Ability to prototype early concepts into tangible mockups and samples while balancing creative ambition with manufacturing constraints.
• Strong communication, collaboration, strategic design thinking, project management, and presentation skills.
