Estimating Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

Location: Livonia, MI, United States. The role includes active project site visits and requires authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available.

Christman Building Innovation Group provides construction project planning and estimating services across different building types, delivery methods, and markets.

What you will do

• Support a high-performance project planning team and collaborate with architects, engineers, trade contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Read and interpret drawings and specifications, survey materials, organize quantity takeoffs, and estimate interiors.
• Develop knowledge of 2D on-screen takeoff, 3D quantity takeoff, estimating, collaboration, document control, and distribution platforms.
• Learn construction pricing and basic structural and civil estimating at design development and construction drawing stages.
• Become familiar with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and their interaction with building architecture.
• Assist with 4D models, facility asset management models, and the use of virtual and augmented reality technologies.

Requirements

• Active full-time sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Participation or leadership in student organizations or extracurricular clubs.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and background screening is required.

Nice to have

• Previous work or internship experience in commercial construction.
