Software Engineer, Data Governance Team (AI)

Location: Seattle, United States; fully in-person schedule of up to 5 days per week

Salary: $129,960–$246,240 annually, with potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Design and scale platforms that orchestrate AI safety checks and produce auditable recommendation signals.
• Build low-latency circuit breakers and middleware that enforce safety guardrails in recommendation paths.
• Develop distributed systems for data inventory, lineage, residual scanning, and right-to-be-forgotten workflows.
• Integrate toxicity classifiers, LLM evaluators, and other safety models into TikTok infrastructure.
• Create observability dashboards and alerting engines for real-time safety and risk telemetry.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• At least 2 years of backend engineering experience with Go, Java, or C++, preferably Go.
• Experience with high-volume data ecosystems such as Hive, Spark, Kafka, Flink, or Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of database design, SQL, and NoSQL internals, including physical data storage and deletion.
• Ability to work onsite in Seattle, United States, up to 5 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience in privacy engineering, GDPR/CCPA compliance, or data governance.
• Familiarity with data cataloging and lineage tools such as Apache Atlas or Amundsen.
• Knowledge of encryption at rest and in transit and IAM frameworks.
• Experience managing data deletion across large distributed systems.
