Biomolecule Engineer (Novel RNA Modalities)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Target start date: January 1, 2027. The VIE program is available to citizens of the European Economic Area aged 18–28, and candidates cannot apply for an assignment in their own country of citizenship.

What you will do

• Design and engineer novel RNA molecules, including mRNA, saRNA, circRNA, siRNA, antisense oligonucleotides, and aptamers.
• Optimize RNA sequences for stability, efficacy, and reduced immunogenicity.
• Develop structure-activity relationships for RNA therapeutic candidates.
• Execute RNA synthesis and purification protocols.
• Perform in vitro and cell-based assays to evaluate RNA functionality.
• Analyze experimental data using statistical and bioinformatics tools and maintain detailed laboratory records.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of relevant experience in RNA research or biotechnology.
• Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with RNA design, synthesis, and characterization.
• Knowledge of analytical methods such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, and gel electrophoresis.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, sequence analysis software, and statistical analysis using R, Python, or similar.
• Fluent English is required; applications must be submitted in English.
