Insurance Specialist I

Location: Hackensack, New Jersey, United States; regular presence at the employee site during scheduled business hours is required.

What you will do

• Monitor delinquent accounts, perform collection activities, and recommend accounts for collection or write-off.
• Review denied claims, research billing issues, reconcile accounts, and resubmit claims to payers.
• Verify payment postings, maintain accurate account balances, and process timely patient and payer refunds.
• Verify referrals and authorizations, follow up with physicians for missing documentation, and update patient and insurance information.
• Answer patient questions about payments, billing, and insurance while resolving complaints and documenting communications.
• Contact third-party payers to resolve issues, expedite claim processing, and maximize reimbursement.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least four years of combined medical billing and payment experience.
• Knowledge of medical coding; oncology coding knowledge is preferred.
• Knowledge of state, federal, and third-party claims processing and collections guidelines.
• Ability to complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of starting the position.
• Ability to work in person at the employee site and interact with patients, coworkers, management, and clients.
