Pricing Actuary/Actuarial Specialist (Medical Insurance)

Location: Cape Town, South Africa; hybrid work model with an expectation of being in the office at least three days per week.

Salary: ZAR 830,000–1,380,000 per year for a full-time role, plus performance-based variable compensation and applicable benefits.

What you will do

• Perform pricing, monitoring, and benefit design for existing and new medical insurance business in target markets.
• Support clients with product benefit design and pricing, and participate in client meetings to understand needs and steer business decisions.
• Review and approve group quotes within the defined authority.
• Identify and drive risk management interventions to help control healthcare expenditure growth.
• Produce and analyse internal and external monitoring reports, identifying emerging trends, problems, and potential resolutions.

Requirements

• Qualified or nearly qualified actuary with at least three years of experience in a healthcare actuarial role.
• Experience in medical insurance, including pricing, monitoring, and benefit design.
• Strong understanding of the South African healthcare and/or broader African medical insurance markets, competitors, trends, and dynamics.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, independent decision-making, customer focus, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
• Working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SQL-based programs.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams and work sensitively across cultural differences.

• Experience in developing and emerging medical insurance markets in Africa.
• Experience studies and costing bases across Africa.
• Experience working in a complex environment.
• Experience with SAS and R.
