Substation Apprentice

Location: Field-based work at construction job sites across the U.S.; primarily out-of-town during the workweek with weekly overnight travel. Extended and emergency travel may be required with little notice.

What you will do

• Install, modify, maintain, and refit substation components and equipment.
• Work with transformers, breakers, relay panels, bus assemblies, and related systems.
• Perform duties from aerial lifts and elevated work platforms under foreman or leadman direction.
• Read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, and other technical information.
• Perform strenuous physical labor in construction environments and respond to outage and storm recovery needs.
• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with employees and management at all levels.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Class A CDL or ability to obtain one within 90 days.
• Mechanical construction background.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb elevated equipment, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding field work.
• Ability to work in extreme heat, rain, cold, noise, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and other adverse site conditions.
• Availability for frequent overtime, weekly overnight travel, emergency work, and extended travel with little notice.

Nice to have

• Technical degree or higher.
• Welding, heavy equipment operation, or NCCCO crane operator skills.
• Previous substation experience.
