TL;DR
Principal Scientist, R&D - Product Dev (Peanut Butter Product Development): Leading the development and commercialization of Kraft Peanut Butter products in Canada with an accent on formulation, process scale-up, food safety, sensory science, and shelf-life improvement. Focus on optimizing roasting, milling, homogenization, and other processing operations, translating bench formulas into factory-scale production, and delivering high-volume SKUs through cross-functional execution.

Location: Mt Royal Plant, Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada. The role involves travel of up to 20% to internal plants, co-manufacturers, and suppliers in the United States and Canada.

Base salary for new hires: $96,200–$120,200 CAD annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

  • Lead product development initiatives for Kraft Peanut Butter within the Canadian platform.
  • Act as the lead product developer across multiple cross-functional projects from concept through commercial rollout.
  • Develop and optimize formulations, stability, shelf life, texture, and performance.
  • Manage product testing and qualification in laboratory and production environments.
  • Translate research findings into product and process decisions for cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues while managing project priorities and resolving conflicts.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry with at least 6 years of end-to-end product commercialization experience in food or CPG, or a Master's degree with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Expertise in fats and oils chemistry, peanut raw materials and processing, and formulation or stabilizer systems for controlling oil separation and achieving target texture and performance.
  • Experience leading scale-up and process development, including roasting, milling, homogenization, crystallization, and vacuum deaeration.
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments, analytical and sensory testing, shelf-life testing, food safety, quality, project management, and problem-solving.
  • Fluent French and English are required.
  • Ability to lead, coach, influence, communicate effectively, manage multiple complex projects, and work with minimal guidance.

Nice to have

  • Certifications in oils and fats, peanut council programs, Six Sigma, or quality.
  • Experience with aflatoxin and Salmonella controls, HACCP, GMP, SQF/BRC, COGS optimization, and supplier management.
