Associate Director, Quality Control Lab Automation (GMP Laboratory Automation)

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States; 70% in-office work model.

Salary: $142,500–$256,500 per year, with potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Own the strategy, governance, and execution of the Quality Control laboratory automation roadmap.
• Lead automation and digital enablement initiatives covering liquid-handling robotics, automated sample management, laboratory instrumentation integration, autonomous technologies, and digital workflows.
• Partner with QC, Digital/IT, Quality, Manufacturing, Analytical Development, AS&T, and Applied Technologies to align priorities and deliver scalable solutions.
• Establish automation standards, governance processes, performance metrics, reliability measures, and continuous-improvement practices.
• Oversee quality-system records, including change controls, deviations, CAPAs, investigations, and impact assessments.
• Represent QC automation during regulatory inspections, audits, and health-authority interactions, while communicating risks, progress, and business value to senior leadership.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Life Sciences, or a related technical field.
• BS with 10+ years, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of experience designing and implementing automation.
• Significant experience in Quality Control, laboratory automation, analytical operations, digital laboratory systems, or GMP laboratory transformation.
• Experience implementing robotics, liquid-handling systems, automated storage, sample preparation, integrated laboratory workflows, or digital method execution in a GMP environment.
• Strong project and portfolio management, executive communication, business-acumen, and stakeholder-influence skills.
• Only U.S. persons—citizens, permanent residents, asylees, or refugees—are eligible due to U.S. export-control requirements; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience developing and executing enterprise-level automation strategies and roadmaps.
• Experience with Chromeleon, LES, LabVantage LIMS, LabX, MODA, and related laboratory platforms.
• Experience evaluating emerging laboratory automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies.
