TL;DR
Engineering Geologist (Geotechnical Engineering): Conducting field explorations, soil sampling, geologic mapping, laboratory data review, and subsurface interpretation for utility and infrastructure projects with an accent on soil classification, geological logging, and design-report support. Focus on interpreting soil and rock samples, preparing geological profiles and cross-sections, and performing fieldwork across varied terrain and weather conditions.

Location: Milwaukee, WI, with travel to field and job sites locally and across the United States

Salary: $38–$43 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Perform field explorations, geologic reconnaissance, mapping, and sample collection.
  • Prepare field reports, geological subsurface logs, profiles, and design cross-sections.
  • Organize laboratory data and conduct or review limited soil index property testing.
  • Interpret soil and rock samples and support the preparation of geological and design reports.
  • Travel to project and job sites by vehicle or air as project needs require.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geology or Engineering Geology.
  • At least two years of experience as a geologist, including soil sampling under USCS standards and laboratory testing.
  • Experience with geologic interpretation and soil classification.
  • Have taken or be preparing to take the Professional Geologist exam.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain, with frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 50+ pounds.

Nice to have

  • Experience applying geology to geotechnical engineering practice.
  • Rock mechanics experience.
  • Experience with RSLog or similar geotechnical borehole logging software and Microsoft Access.
