Scientist I (Quality Control Microbiology)

Location: Melrose Park, Illinois, United States; onsite, 12-hour overnight shifts

Salary: $28.00–$32.00 per hour, plus a $1.75 per hour overnight shift differential.

What you will do

• Perform routine and non-routine environmental monitoring of production areas, laboratories, water systems, compressed gas, and personnel.
• Conduct microbiological testing of in-process materials, finished products, raw materials, and components.
• Support investigations into OOS, OOT, OOL, invalid tests, deviations, and unexpected results, including root-cause analysis and CAPA activities.
• Validate microbiological test methods and support process validation, technical transfer, equipment qualification, and requalification studies.
• Perform microbial identification using the Accugenix MALDI system, including sub-culture, Gram staining, culture maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Review laboratory data, maintain equipment and calibrations, update SOPs, process LIMS records, and train less experienced analysts and manufacturing personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in biological science and 1–3 years of progressive laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of microbiological test methods, instrumentation, cGMPs, GLPs, and current compendial methods.
• Strong verbal and written communication, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective spoken and written English is required for policies, procedures, training materials, and workplace communications.
• ISO Class 5 gowning certification must be successfully completed when required for environmental monitoring responsibilities.
• Ability to work onsite overnight shifts and coordinate laboratory activities independently.

Nice to have

• Previous experience with microbial identification using the MALDI system for Microbial ID Laboratory assignments.
