TL;DR
Financial Navigator (Oncology Revenue Cycle): Supporting oncology patients by investigating insurance benefits, calculating treatment costs, and securing copay assistance, grants, manufacturer programs, Medicaid, and charity care with an accent on patient advocacy, financial counseling, and end-to-end assistance management. Focus on submitting applications, coordinating with insurers and assistance providers, maintaining compliant EMR documentation, and preventing treatment delays caused by cost.

Location: In-office in Chicago Ridge and/or Orland Park, Illinois

Salary: $20.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience, education, and skills.

What you will do

  • Investigate insurance benefits and calculate individualized out-of-pocket cost estimates for new oncology patients.
  • Screen patients for financial need and identify applicable assistance programs, grants, copay support, manufacturer assistance, Medicaid, and charity care.
  • Conduct financial counseling and explain insurance benefits, billing, payment options, and assistance requirements to patients.
  • Collect documentation, submit applications, and manage approvals, renewals, redeterminations, and hardship waivers.
  • Maintain accurate financial tracking and documentation in the EMR while complying with HIPAA and privacy requirements.
  • Generate reports on assistance secured, approvals, and program performance, collaborating with clinical, pharmacy, social work, and billing teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a healthcare business office, revenue cycle, or financial counseling role strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience with insurance verification and benefits investigation required.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, CMS guidelines, and third-party payer regulations required.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and cancer treatment workflows; familiarity with copay assistance portals, PAP platforms, foundation grants, and EMR systems required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with medical billing, accounts receivable, or collections.
  • Previous experience in oncology, specialty pharmacy, or patient assistance programs.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10 and CPT coding.
