Public Benefit Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: On-site at Methodist - University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee; limited to individuals residing and authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $18.65–$20.50 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Review uninsured and under-insured patients for Medicaid and financial assistance program eligibility.
• Initialize and coordinate applications to support accurate and complete submissions.
• Communicate with patients to obtain required supporting documents.
• Follow applications through determination, update insurance information, and support timely billing or adjustment processing.
• Document actions and communications in patient accounting systems.
• Work with state and federal Medicaid caseworkers and collaborate with revenue cycle departments.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of healthcare industry experience involving hospital financial issues and patient interaction.
• High school diploma or GED; equivalent post-secondary education and experience may be considered.
• Understanding of revenue cycle processes, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
• Knowledge of patient insurance requirements, authorizations, and benefits verification.
• Ability to learn state and federal program requirements and use patient accounting systems.
• Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Patient Access, managed care, insurance, or call center experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes.
