Senior Director, Patent Litigation (Biotech)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; 70% in-office work model. Only U.S. persons are eligible due to U.S. export control requirements.

Salary: $210,900–$379,200 per year, plus potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Set patent and litigation strategy and manage complex U.S. intellectual property disputes and patent challenges.
• Manage litigation matters with outside counsel, internal legal teams, and business stakeholders, while supporting ex-U.S. litigation and patent office proceedings.
• Develop pre-litigation strategies, assess patent risks, and provide strategic counsel on the company’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical pipeline.
• Coordinate litigation-related disclosures and communications with finance, corporate communications, and investor relations.
• Develop and optimize intellectual property litigation infrastructure, policies, and processes.
• Provide executive-ready analysis of litigation events, risks, threats, and recommended strategic or process changes.

Requirements

• J.D. from a national law school and admission to a U.S. state bar.
• Eligibility for in-house licensure through the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers and an active license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least 10 years of experience handling complex intellectual property challenges and litigation in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
• Extensive hands-on litigation experience, including case management, discovery and e-discovery oversight, and litigation strategy.
• Strategic judgment, strong communication and leadership skills, business acumen, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
• Ability to access export-controlled information under U.S. law; non-U.S. persons cannot be sponsored for an export control license.

Nice to have

• First-chair litigation experience.
• Experience with IPR and EPO proceedings.
• Experience with international intellectual property litigation laws and practices.
• Prior use of AI tools or experience developing GPTs and AI-enabled legal workflows.
