TL;DR
Sr Optical Test and Measurement Engineer (Optics): Developing, performing, and analyzing optical tests for components, systems, and devices with an accent on laboratory measurement, data interpretation, and compliance with specifications. Focus on operating and calibrating optical equipment, supporting simulations and modeling, and troubleshooting product performance across the full lifecycle.

Location: Lone Tree, Colorado, United States; office or hybrid work as needed. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Estimated starting salary: $124,771.42–$171,560.71 per year, plus performance-based annual incentive pay.

What you will do

  • Develop, perform, and analyze optical tests on components, systems, and devices.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate spectrometers, power meters, microscopes, and other optical test equipment.
  • Collect, organize, interpret, and document measurement data, identifying trends and discrepancies.
  • Support test-procedure development and validation, including feedback for process improvements.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to troubleshoot issues and verify compliance with specifications.
  • Assist with optical simulations and modeling, laboratory organization, safety practices, and occasional field research or conference travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related scientific field; a higher relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • 10+ years of research and development or related experience, including demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience designing and conducting scientific experiments and solving moderate to complex analytical problems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and advanced scientific software, along with knowledge of scientific principles and practices.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice to have

  • Research experience in an optics laboratory environment.
  • Experience using and troubleshooting vacuum systems.
  • Experience operating and aligning Class IV laser systems.
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical assemblies.
