Sr Software Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, California, or Washington, D.C.; report to a specific location at least 3 times per week. Travel required up to 25%.

Salary: $170,600–$261,300 base compensation annually, plus potential incentive pay.

What you will do

• Design and develop APIs, domain services, event-driven workflows, and vehicle-recording metadata pipelines.
• Build services and user experiences for defining collection events, selecting vehicle data, validating configurations, deploying campaigns, and monitoring results.
• Design version-aware workflows that reconcile signals, schemas, hardware capabilities, and software compatibility across vehicle platforms.
• Improve visibility into campaign health, fleet coverage, recording volume, ingestion latency, and data quality.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives involving vehicle recording, fleet management, data platforms, autonomy, privacy, product, and program teams.
• Raise engineering standards through architecture reviews, automated testing, code reviews, technical mentorship, and production support.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience owning production systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in Python or another modern backend programming language.
• Strong experience designing scalable backend services, APIs, and relational data models.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous workflows, data ingestion, testing, debugging, and production operations.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions and lead work across organizational boundaries.

Nice to have

• Experience with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Google Cloud, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Kafka, observability platforms, or data-quality systems.
• Experience with FastAPI, React, or TypeScript.
• Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive software, embedded systems, or safety-critical domains.
• Familiarity with sensor data, vehicle data collection, fleet management, deployment control planes, software-version compatibility, privacy, and data governance.
