TL;DR
Senior/Executive Medical Director, Clinical Development (New Indications) (Neurology) (TYK2/CNS): Leading Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical development for A-005 and additional pipeline molecules in neurological, inflammatory, and immunologic indications with an accent on study strategy, medical oversight, and biomarker integration. Focus on designing early clinical trials, guiding regulatory interactions, evaluating safety and data, and shaping new indication development through proof-of-concept readout.

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; onsite Tuesday-Thursday. Remote candidates may be considered case by case. Travel of approximately 20-30% is required.

Salary: $300,000-$400,000 USD annually, plus annual bonus and equity participation.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, planning, and execution of Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies for A-005, a CNS-penetrant TYK2 inhibitor, and other pipeline molecules.
  • Develop clinical development plans, study synopses, protocols, and integrated strategies for new indications.
  • Serve as Medical Monitor, overseeing patient safety, protocol amendments, data review, and scientific integrity.
  • Partner with Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, Regulatory Affairs, Translational Sciences, Biomarkers, Pharmacology, Commercial, and Medical Affairs.
  • Lead interactions with DSMBs, FDA, EMA, PMDA, investigators, KOLs, academic collaborators, and scientific conferences.
  • Mentor junior medical staff and help build clinical development capabilities.

Requirements

  • MD required; neurology experience required. Neurology board certification or fellowship training is highly desired.
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience in clinical development, with significant neurology experience.
  • Experience leading Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies from design through data readout.
  • Successful FDA and EMA regulatory interactions and experience preparing IND or CTA submissions.
  • Strong knowledge of early clinical development, dose-finding, biomarker integration, adaptive trial designs, and evaluation of preclinical and clinical data.
  • Leadership, communication, strategic thinking, and cross-functional influence in a matrixed environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with JAK/TYK2 inhibitors or related immunomodulatory mechanisms.
  • Experience in immunology, autoimmune diseases, rheumatology, dermatology, indication expansion, or lifecycle management.
  • Established neurology KOL relationships and familiarity with expedited regulatory pathways such as Breakthrough Therapy and Fast Track.
  • Experience at a small or mid-sized biotechnology company.
