Manager, Field Station (Horticulture Research)

Location: Florida Field Station, Apopka, Florida, United States; onsite field-station role

Salary: $111,500–$131,200 per year, plus eligibility for corporate bonus programs.

What you will do

• Oversee field station operations, site maintenance, logistics, equipment, EHS protocols, safety audits, and environmental compliance.
• Supervise, train, and develop 3–5 research specialists and technicians, along with 1–3 seasonal staff.
• Manage station budgets, expenditures, resource allocation, and capital funding.
• Coordinate fieldwork with corporate research teams in Marysville, Ohio, and conduct biological trials using Good Research Practices.
• Design experimental research plans, analyze data, and translate findings into recommendations for warm-season lawn and garden products.
• Communicate operational and research updates to R&D teams, business leaders, regulators, and external visitors.

Requirements

• Minimum M.S. degree in biological science, such as Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Entomology, or Soil Science; Ph.D. preferred.
• With an M.S., 5–7 years of relevant research and managerial experience; with a Ph.D., 2–4 years.
• Practical knowledge of warm-season turf, ornamentals, tropical foliage, vegetables, and a specialization such as plant nutrition, soil science, growing media, or weed and pest management.
• Strong knowledge of experimental design, statistics, and Good Research Practices; proficiency with Agricultural Research Manager, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office.
• English fluency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage projects, motivate teams, and support career development for station personnel.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in a relevant biological science.
• Familiarity with Minitab or SAS.
• Knowledge of smart and IoT technologies and GIS-based programs used in consumer lawn and garden research.
• Spanish language skills.
