What you will do

  • Provide genetic counseling and education to patients and families with a history of cancer.
  • Collect and analyze personal, medical, and family histories from interviews, screenings, records, and clinicians.
  • Develop computerized inheritance models to calculate cancer risks and identify candidates for genetic screening and testing.
  • Coordinate genetic testing, insurance authorizations, physician referrals, laboratory appointments, and results reporting.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other clinicians on patient follow-up and treatment planning.
  • Support cancer genetics research by recruiting participants, obtaining informed consent, and collecting medical histories.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Medical Genetics or Genetic Counseling from an accredited genetics counseling training program.
  • Clinical experience in genetics counseling.
  • Board certification or eligibility for certification through the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics.
  • Five years of practicing genetics counseling experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work with patients, families, clinicians, and community support organizations in a clinical environment.
