Sr. Scientist - Food Safety

Location: Warrendale, Pennsylvania, United States; travel up to 30% per year

New hire base salary: $83,400–$104,200 per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Develop and implement food safety and microbiological control programs for internal factories and external manufacturers in the US and Canada.
• Guide HACCP plan development, reassessment, and validation of preventive controls.
• Review environmental monitoring and microbiological testing programs and support their implementation.
• Troubleshoot food safety issues, review deviations, and provide technical support to factories, suppliers, and copackers.
• Support R&D and Brand Quality with food safety risk assessment, product specifications, brand maintenance, and new product commercialization.
• Provide scientific support for internal, external, and regulatory audits and assist with audit activities.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Engineering, or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
• 3–5 years of relevant food safety or food processing experience.
• Prior HACCP certification and practical knowledge of HACCP and food safety programs.
• In-depth understanding of USDA, FDA, and CFIA regulatory requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Environmental Monitoring Programs.
• Experience with microbiology laboratory techniques and awareness of quality systems such as ISO and Six Sigma.
• Strong communication, presentation, report-writing, teaching, teamwork, and project management skills.
