Applied AI Research (Capabilities)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid policy requires staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time. Occasional travel to customer sites is required.

Annual salary: $1–$2 USD.

What you will do

• Design and execute fine-tuning projects that deliver reliable, customized AI solutions for enterprise customers.
• Identify domains where Claude should improve and collaborate with research teams on evaluations, reinforcement-learning environments, and training infrastructure.
• Optimize fine-tuning strategies, evaluation frameworks, and model-improvement methodologies.
• Advise customers on fine-tuning, integration, deployment, and best practices.
• Translate customer requirements into immediate solutions and longer-term research opportunities with Sales, Product, Research, and Engineering.
• Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops, research collaboration, and implementation support.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience training or fine-tuning deep learning models.
• Experience in a customer- or client-facing role and building production systems with large language models.
• Experience designing evaluations, building RL environments, or contributing to model training pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; an advanced degree in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or a related technical field is valued.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, teaching, and mentoring skills, with a commitment to safe and beneficial AI.
