Engineering Underwriter (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)

Location: Zurich, Switzerland; hybrid work with an expectation of at least three days per week in the office

Base salary: CHF 100,000–150,000 annually for a full-time role, plus performance-based variable compensation.

What you will do

• Underwrite engineering treaty and facultative reinsurance business, primarily for France and with support for other EMEA markets.
• Perform technical and actuarial assessments, review policy wordings, and negotiate with clients.
• Manage post-underwriting activities, including risk surveys, portfolio reserve setting, account servicing, and claims support.
• Develop new business and client relationships across decennial insurance, construction, infrastructure, parametric covers, and renewable energy.
• Deliver client advice, special acceptances, training sessions, and workshops while developing tailored engineering solutions.
• Contribute to product innovation, market visibility, cross-business initiatives, knowledge sharing, and engineering research.

Requirements

• University degree in a scientific or commercial field; engineering, actuarial, or computer science qualifications are advantageous.
• Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, ideally in treaty underwriting; candidates with 3+ years of experience and earlier-career candidates with strong potential are considered.
• Professional proficiency in English and French, written and spoken, is required.
• Strong analytical skills, sound decision-making, and the ability to work with complex technical topics under pressure and ambiguity.
• Strong communication and client relationship skills, with willingness to travel moderately for client and market engagements.

Nice to have

• Experience in client markets or other lines of business.
• Familiarity with engineering insurance lines, including construction, infrastructure, parametric covers, renewable energy, or decennial insurance.
• Additional language skills beyond English and French.
• Experience with knowledge-sharing initiatives or cross-functional projects.
